70 AD, Alexandria
A century since I was turned into a creature of the night. Rome went through many emperors and a civil war in that time. Vespasian has declared himself the new emperor but only time would tell how long he would last. No mortal that I knew in my previous life still lived. I stayed in during the day and went out at night to feed. I performed rituals but they did nothing. The gods had abandoned me. I knew not what else I could do.
Roll: 1d10 - 1d6 = 10 - 5 = +5 → Prompt #6
A mortal character begins serving you. Who are they? Why are they drawn to you? Create a new mortal Character.
One night, I was sloppy. I was seen satisfying my hunger by a man who made himself known to me. He said he’d been following and watching me for awhile. His name was Mido and he was a lowly servant who wanted more. He wanted to be like me. I took him into my service. It would do well to have someone watching my back.
Roll: 1d10 - 1d6 = 1 - 6 = -5 → Prompt #21
“That’s nice,” Mido said, admiring my golden figure of Osiris. “Where did you get it?” he asked. I thought for a moment. “I don’t remember,” I said. I realized I was losing things, memories, bits of myself. And what did I have in return for this loss? Deaths at my hands? A thirst for blood? A century of enslaved debauchery? I looked at the golden statue and felt…nothing. It had been a gift but now I could not remember who had given it to me or why. Later, I watched Mido bring in a homeless beggar for me to feast on, and recoiled. I was disgusted, and I fled, taking my things in the night when Mido slept. I fled from the city and society, to the Qattara depression, finding a dry, dusty cavern with which I kept myself hidden from the world. Over time, I built a small hut outside the cave. I hunted and fed on gazelles and other wildlife to keep myself alive.
I gain the resource, Hut.
Roll: 1d10 - 1d6 = 2 - 1 = +1 → Prompt #3.2
80 AD, Qattara Depression
I gained a companion. Her name was Hanan. She was from a small oasis village, not many miles from my cave. She found me. She took pity on me. She kept visiting me and our connection grew over the years. We became close and I asked her to live with me. She resisted, saying she needed to take care of her family. I decided it was time to visit this little village she came from. I went in the night, found her home and woke her. I handed her a knife and told her what she needed to do. At first, she hesitated, but I told her it would be worse if I was forced to do it myself. She did what I asked and I took her back to my hut.
I gain the skill Humans are tools.
Roll: 1d10 - 1d6 = 1 - 6 = -5 → Prompt #2.2
I began to see my cave and hut in a new light. I started marking the walls. Through experimentation, I foraged for and found natural ingredients I could use for different pigments. I was able to express my dark and twisted emotions across the cavernous and wooden walls, symbols and shapes, figures from memories that were now only ghosts or vague senses in my mind. I found myself appreciating the beauty in the paintings, and as I painted, I lost myself in it, forgetting the urges, forgetting the dark memories, forgetting what I was. But afterwards, the memories always returned, especially the dark deeds I performed for Sekhmet. I had been a warrior for her and I found that I still had those reflexes, those skills within me. I found myself forgetting memories that I cherished, memories of Chione, so one night, I hastily wrote them down in a diary scroll.
I gain the resource Diary Scroll and add the skill Fighting.
Roll: 1d10 - 1d6 = 10 - 6 = +4 → Prompt #6.2
85 AD, Qattara Depression
I thought I could trust Hanan, after all those years. I thought she had learned her lesson in defying me. But one night, when I returned from a hunt, carrying a slain elk behind me, I saw flickering light outside of the hut. Hurrying, I came to Hanan, tossing my Diary Scroll into a fire she’d made. She looked fierce and defiant. I dropped the elk and went to her, grabbing her by the neck. She had tears in her eyes. I suppose she may have been hoping I would kill her in anger. “Now, you will never remember or know any who once loved you, because you are a creature that can’t be loved,“ she screamed. I looked at the fire for a moment. I knew I had lost something, but did not know what. What is such a feeling? Is it anything at all? I looked into Hanan’s eyes. “I forgive you,” I told her, and held her close. She cried.
I cross out the resource Diary Scroll and lose the memories written within forever.
Roll: 1d10 - 1d6 = 2 - 6 = -4 → 2.3
It is not long after that, mortals come for me in my cave. A large group, carrying torches from the nearby village Hanan was from. They burned my hut to the ground and I escaped through tunnels in the cave. They thought they had killed me and saved Hanan. I followed them back to their village and killed them one by one in their sleep, except for Hanan, who I kept alive.
I degrade a resource into Ruins, and gain the skill Vile Acts.
Post-Chapter Summary
6 prompts and things have vastly changed. I’ve forgotten my dear, mentor, Amr, my servant for a brief time, Mido, and even my lost love, Chione. Even though I’d written down her memories in a diary, my own companion burned it to pieces in revenge. I could’ve chosen any resource to lose but I chose the diary because it felt like such an impactful and dramatic moment. It made sense in the story and is a moment that shows the true terror of being this undying monster. An important relationship, gone just like that. Chione could still be alive, too, immortal as she is. What happens if she shows up again? And what will be left of Amon at the end of it all? How much of himself will he have lost?
