The dogs dying got to me too. That was a great story and a fun perspective, I really enjoyed it. Excellent writing as well, it really pulls me as I get anxious to see the results of their choices.
I am absolutely loving the Kol-Noth series, and I really do think the monsters-as-characters is something that should be done more often. Their plight and personalities really shine.
