I enjoyed reading your article.I haven't played Kal-Arath. I used to play D&D 3.5. Trying to get ready to play Mirrorshades solo which is a hack of a hack. Basically based on the Black Hack.
I’m with you on Kal-Arath. Easy and simple to learn yet can get fast paced. I tweaked a few things for it because I eventually had 4 players going. I’m about to get into solo Shadowdark and for sci fi I love Hostile Solo which is a system based on Traveller.
I'm quite happy because I noticed that the base mechanics of Roll for Shoes fit soooo well for all those stories where the character goes around gaining skills.
