Two campaigns down and this newsletter is still trucking. Hmmm. (Note to self: look up solo trucking journaling game)
Keeping up with these games/chapters weekly while still working full time as a teacher hasn’t been easy and I’m going to take a couple weeks off before diving into a new game. While it may not seem like it, it’s quite a bit of work to find the time to play a game, craft responses to prompts, make choices, write everything up and then edit it for publication. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it, and I’m honored that even 50+ people open their email to read what I’ve put out there. I just need some time to rest and recharge. I’m expecting 2-3 weeks at most.
While on break, you can check out the Table of Contents
There you can find every chapter from my TYOV game, as well as a link to my previous game, Sanguine Limits, a Sci-fi exploration game using the Starforged system. There’s also a few other solo-gaming focused posts, as well as a horror one-shot I did for Halloween about a cursed Lighthouse.
You can also follow my on Substack Chats, if that’s a thing you like, or with Substacks’ new Notes thingamabob, a sort of twitter-alike that is new and interesting. While on break, I will likely be posting random things on Notes, including my mini-game using Cthulhu Dark and the Solo Investigator’s Handbook.
So what comes next, after this break? Great question! The sheer amount of solo games out there, with more and more every day, is incredibly overwhelming. There’s so many fantastic and engaging systems and settings, it’s been hard to pin down what I want to do next.
One project I really want to do is to use a bunch of games to create a fantasy world and then play in that world. This is still very much in its planning stages. I’ve gathered a bunch of games for such a thing, including things like Microscope and Foundations and Ex Novo and The Quiet Year…etc. The list goes on. But this is going to take awhile and I don’t think I’m ready to begin playing, writing and publishing this. I need something before this, so that leads me to my other idea…
I already have created two characters and randomly generated a Case. This will be the first time I’ll be playing a TTRPG that isn’t made for soloing, so I’ll need to use some kind of GME. Whether that’s a simple 1d6, or a more complicated one, I’ve yet to decide. I started writing the first scene and it really sparked my imagination. I’m excited to get into this and am hoping with a few weeks off, I can really set this up and dive in.
So that’s the tentative plan! A few weeks off, with maybe one or two off-week posts, before I come back with a Blade Runner campaign. I think it will be really interesting for me to handle a non-solo based system, forcing myself to use some kind of GME, as well as dealing with a mystery, something that can be difficult for anyone solo-gaming.
Thank you so much for reading. Let me know what you think in the comments,
Subscribe if a Blade Runner campaign interests you,
And share if you think others might be interested.
Obligatory self-promotion: Everything I create and write will always be free, but if you think it would be worth it to throw a couple bucks my way, please pledge to let me know that. I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
